Automotive Parts Manufacturing Industry

A car has about 10,000 parts, each part has to be formed through different processes, so do you know about the process of auto parts processing what? Modern auto parts processing process can be divided into seven steps: forging, casting, cold stamping, welding, metal cutting, heat treatment and assembly.

Forging

Forging is a manufacturing method in which molten metal is poured into a mold cavity, cooled and solidified to obtain a product. In the automotive industry, many parts are made from pig iron, accounting for about 10% of the net weight of the vehicle. For example, sand forms are generally used to produce cast iron parts such as cylinder liners, gearbox housings, steering system housings, rear axle housings, brake system drums, various brackets, etc.

Casting

In the automotive industry, castings are widely used. Forging is divided into random forging and solid model forging. Random forging, also known as "quenching", is a production method in which a metal material blank is placed on an iron felt to withstand impact or load. Random casting is used to produce and machine blanks for automotive worm wheels and shafts. Solid model forging is a production method in which a blank of metallic material is placed in a dolly cavity to withstand an impact or load. The entire process of solid model forging is somewhat like grinding batter into cookies in a die.

Cold Stamping

Cold die or sheet metal stamping die is a production method in which sheet metal is cut or formed by the force in the stamping die. Cold stamping is used to form everyday items such as pots, lunch boxes and washbasins. The auto parts produced and processed by cold stamping die include: auto engine oil pan, brake system base plate, auto window frame and most body parts. These parts are generally shaped through the processes of undercutting, punching, bending, reversing and overhauling. In order to better produce cold stamping parts, stamping dies need to be made.

Welding

Electric welding is a production method in which two metal materials are heated partially or simultaneously for stamping. Usually, the welding process of holding a mask in one hand and a welding clamp and wire connected to a cable in the other hand is called manual arc welding. However, manual arc welding is rarely used in the automotive industry, and welding is more widely used in body production. Welding is applicable to the welding of cold-rolled steel plates by electric welding. In practice, two electrodes are used to apply pressure to two thick steel plates so that they stick together. At the same time, the fluid at the feed point is heated and melted so that they are firmly and tightly joined together.

Metal cutting

Metal material turning is the gradual drilling of metal material blanks with milling tools; so that the product obtains the desired product appearance, specifications and roughness. Turning of metal materials includes milling and machining. Milling workers are a production method in which workers use special hand tools to make cuts. The actual operation is sensitive and convenient. It is widely used for installation and maintenance. Machining and manufacturing rely on CNC lathes to achieve drilling, including turning, planing, milling, drilling, grinding and other methods.

Heat treatment

Heat treatment process is a method of reheating, holding or cooling solid steel to change its organization to meet the application standards or technical standards of the parts. The magnitude of the heating environment temperature, the length of holding time and the rate of cooling efficiency will result in different organizational changes in the steel. A blacksmith store will rapidly cool heated cast iron to water (called heat treatment by experts), which can improve the strength of aluminum parts. This is also the case with heat treatment processes. Heat treatment methods include quenching, hardening, heat treatment, and hardening.

Assembly

The parts are then joined into a complete vehicle according to certain regulations. Both the parts and the components of the whole vehicle need to cooperate and interrelate with each other according to the requirements of the design drawings, so that the parts or the whole vehicle can realize the set characteristics. For example, when installing a transmission on a clutch housing, ensure that the shaft of the transmission key shaft and the shaft of the crankshaft are pointing. The installer does not adjust this core method during assembly, but rather adjusts it according to the design plan and production.
